The micro-hamlet of Sunderland Point lies on a narrow strip of land on the western bank of the mouth of the Lune estuary. More correctly known as Sunderland, it originated in the eighteenth century and was once a thriving port. An atmospheric and elemental site, Sunderland is cut off from it's nearest neighbour Overton when the road linking them is flooded at high tide, further enhancing it's feeling of isolation.
